Last time I wrote, I mentioned how bad leaving the car engine on can be and the impact on the environment. On my way to school, I noticed parents leaving the car running while they’re in it… So here are some facts to maybe change your mind.
Did you know that some cars can pump two times the number of bad fumes when not moving? The exhaust pumps out more fuel and gives off more harmful emissions because they can’t work properly. This can cause damage to your car.
These bad gasses include carbon dioxide, which is bad for the environment. It’s not just that, they can also pump out other bad gasses such as nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons, which are linked to asthma and other lung diseases.
All this bad air pollution is harmful for kids whose lungs are still developing. 23,000 children in Devon are said to be affected by asthma.
Top tip: turn off your engine while waiting or, if you can, walk or ride a bike.
