Founded in January 2020, the Broadclyst Environment Group is a community-driven organisation committed to preserving and enhancing the local environment in Broadclyst Parish and immediate surrounding areas. This includes the communities of Broadclyst, Broadclyst Station, Westclyst, Tithebarn, Budlake, and Westwood.

The Broadclyst Environment Group became a member of Community Action Groups (CAG) Devon in 2024. Our group also operates in collaboration with local authorities, such as Broadclyst Parish Council and East Devon District Council, to organise and participate in various environmental activities and campaigns.
We communicate and coordinate through our Facebook page and an active WhatsApp community, and we welcome anyone interested in joining our efforts!
What We Do
Our local volunteers engage in a variety of activities aimed at improving environmental quality and promoting sustainability in Broadclyst Parish.

Some of our recent initiatives include:
- Participating in the Big Spring Clean campaign and organising community litter picks.
- Advocating for safe cycle and walking paths, including and campaigning for new infrastructure.
- Volunteering as citizen scientists with the Westcountry Rivers Trust to monitor water quality in local streams and rivers.
- Engaging in creative environmental projects, such as Killerton’s “Poetry Bomb” event, where we submitted environmentally-themed Haiku poems.
- Encouraging community involvement through collecting pledges from residents to commit to eco-friendly actions like trying vegetarianism, walking to work, or growing vegetables. We have over 40 pledges so far.
Our goal is to foster a community spirit around environmental stewardship, encouraging collective action for a sustainable future.
Future Plans

The Broadclyst Environment Group plans to continue to grow our knowledge and involvement in citizen science activities including a focus on water quality monitoring on our local River Clyst and grow our relationships and partnerships to engage our community on a wide range of activities that deliver environmental outcomes. We also aim to find more environmental leaders in our community; those who are willing to step up and give some time to lead and co-ordinate activities.
