Wow! We are absolutely thrilled with how well our very first Repair Café went on 24th January at Westclyst Primary School. The morning was full of fixing, chatting, cake-eating and a real sense of community spirit.
In total, at least 20 items were repaired and put back into use — from clothes and jewellery to a piano stool, a metronome, a model aeroplane and even a toy train. Some of the fixes brought a few tears of joy, especially where much-loved items and family mementos hadn’t been usable for years. That’s what it’s all about.

We were also delighted to have a couple of repairers turn up on the day who we didn’t even know were coming — what a lovely surprise! The atmosphere was buzzing, with people helping each other, chatting away and making new friends. And yes, lots of cake was eaten.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised over £170, which will go directly towards running future Repair Cafés and supporting our wider environmental work. From a quick straw poll on the day, there’s clear enthusiasm for making this a regular, possibly bi-monthly event. We’re hoping to run sessions on the 4th Sunday of the month, and we’ll confirm dates soon.
Update: Our next next Repair Café is confirmed for Saturday 28th March 2026
A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, brought items to repair, donated, or simply came along to support us. Give yourselves a well-deserved pat on the back — even if my extension reel didn’t survive the day!
Please spread the word so next time we can repair even more things, save even more carbon, and enjoy even more cake.
Until March!
