By the time you read this, we will have held three Repair Cafés and diverted an impressive 23kg of waste from incineration and landfill. If you haven’t joined us yet, we’d love to welcome you along.
Our most commonly repaired items so far have been clothing and electrical goods. We’ve replaced broken zips, taken up trousers, darned woolly jumpers, and repaired everything from vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers to clocks and strimmers, plus plenty more besides. We also repair bikes.
If you have skills in any of these areas and would like to volunteer, please do get in touch.
We don’t carry spare parts, so if your item needs a specific component, please bring it with you. Otherwise, we can often advise and fix it at a future Repair Café.

We’re also looking for keen bakers to provide cakes for our events. We can reimburse ingredient costs up to £5, and we also cover consumables for our repairers.
Thanks to the donations we’ve received, we’re planning to purchase an additional PAT tester to speed up electrical repairs, and to train more volunteers to carry out safety checks.
Our next Repair Café will take place on 25th July, and then every other month on the fourth Saturday, at Westclyst School.
What will you bring along to our next Repair Café? We don’t have anything to fix, so do pop in anyway for a chat, a cuppa, and a piece of homemade cake. We rely on donations to keep going, and every bit of support is greatly appreciated.
March also saw our “Big Spring Clean”, during which an impressive 23 bags of litter were collected across the parish, although Tithebarn was, unfortunately, the most affected area. It was encouraging to see several new faces joining in, but disappointing to note the continued problem of rubbish being thrown from cars along Tithebarn Way. This behaviour is not only unsightly but also harmful to wildlife and waste materials that could otherwise be recycled, particularly bottles and cans.

Our thanks go to Tesco for storing the collected rubbish until it was picked up by East Devon District Council on Monday morning.
As we also linked the Westclyst litter pick with the Repair Café, at future events, you’ll be able to litter pick while waiting for your repair, if you wish. Repairs can take a little time, but we hope you’ll enjoy the chance to relax, or lend a hand, knowing you’re helping to reduce waste and save carbon.
Please get in contact for more information.
